As many would assume that Hip Hop simply means a genre of music, there is much more to it. When you hear people rapping or being more outspoken, or even dressing in a particular way, it is called a culture. With Hip Hop Mix CD the music evolved into a culture which many people, up until today, follow religiously.

One of the biggest reasons people enjoyed this genre is because of the dance moves that you could create when the music came on. Breakdancing specifically is one of the more popular styles because it exudes the feeling of being cool. It was widely used in competitions where people would create groups and challenge each other for prizes that range from money to fame.

The clothing that was worn during this era was widely used. From normal people, youth and even celebrities began dressing a certain way. This usually involved loose clothing that still showed off a person s silhouette. With the clothes, people also wore scarfs and caps that was either a form of expression or it was something that meant they were a part of specific groups.

Going to parties and being in clubs was something that many of the youth took part in. Usually, they were much younger and couldn t be at clubs. In this case, they would attend numerous house parties. At these parties, rap music which is another term used for this style of music was played on repeat. In fact, the DJ s and hosts received more fame from playing it than the actual artists.

Graffiti is the first form of art during this era that caught public attention. Many people chose to express themselves by using spray paint to write on public walls and buildings. These could range from what they felt to something they hated or even loved. It got the attention of the public and even the police. It was frowned upon, however; this trend is still alive today. Spray paint could also be about showing certain words or names that are made up. Eventually, certain areas became filled with colour and expressive terms. The areas that contained this more than usual easily came across as the more dangerous areas.

Rap music became the be all in the music industry. What it meant for other artists is that they would have to suffer from drops in sales if they couldn t match up or join the genre. Because of this, many artists started joining forces with rappers to create mixed music that will still help them to make sales. This way, they would also increase their chances of remaining popular.

It wasn t long until the world of digital came into existence. This meant that everyone across the globe was not forced to listen to music that they didn t enjoy. Although this was the majority, the ability to download other genres and be exposed to what other artists are doing, slowly pushed rap off the high stoop and made room for others.

The culture has proven to be somewhat of a nuisance from time to time however, it is the only urban ethos that brought a nation together.
